Beyond the Jitters: Embracing the Post-Grad Leap Into Digital PR

Search, search, search … secure. Finding a job that fits your career goals and plans right out of college was more challenging than I thought. How are all these business majors landing jobs so quickly?!

That was often all I thought about while entering my last semester of college as a mass communications major. I could not understand the world of job searching, especially being so new to it.

Luckily, I had Hoffman on my radar since my junior year of college, when I was frantically looking for agencies I could be a part of post-grad. Fast-forward to my senior year, and after countless hours scrolling on LinkedIn, I circled back to Hoffman and was delighted to see that they were looking for a Digital Intern for the summer. It was incredibly exciting to finally have this opportunity, one I’d been anticipating, fall into place.

Stepping into the professional world is exhilarating. It’s a whirlwind of excitement, nervous energy and the inevitable what am I doing?” feeling. Being “fresh” out of college makes it tough to grasp the future, but I like to think “been there, done that.”  As much as I’d like to rewind four years and be a college student again, I’m ready for the professional world, and the professional world is ready for me.

Why digital PR? Evolution and innovation.

The field is constantly on the move, adapting to new technologies and communication channels. As someone who is passionate about social media, it’s crazy to see how much it’s changed in a decade. Just imagine what the next 10 years hold. This endless possibility is what excites me about PR and ultimately led me to choose a career in the digital side of PR. It’s the perfect blend of my interests and passions, and tech PR lets me be right at the forefront of it all.

“Post-grad plans” used to send shivers down my spine at the beginning of the year.

Every time it came up, a shrug and a subject change were my go-to moves. As I soaked up the last semester of college, the thought of adulting felt like a distant, unwelcome guest I couldn’t avoid. But hey, that’s just life. It’s about embracing the uncomfortable. After all, we can’t control time, only how we fill it. And trust me, it flies.

Coming back up North after college in the South has been an easy adjustment … for now. Twenty-two Boston winters have proven one thing: I’m still not a fan of the cold. So of course, I take full advantage of New England summers. In my free time, you can almost always find me at the beach, listening to my favorite country music playlist or taking every opportunity to travel to new places.

The warm welcome I’ve received at Hoffman has already eased my first-day jitters and makes me even more excited to be part of the team. I’m eager to learn the ropes of agency life and grow both professionally and personally throughout my internship!
