From Graduation to Growth: My Journey With The Hoffman Agency

Graduating college didn’t feel easy — moving apartments, seeing friends move to different cities and leaving behind an environment that once felt so familiar made the transition to adulthood more daunting than ever.

The feeling of “entering adulthood” was more real and overwhelming than I had anticipated.

But somehow, those moments of getting ready for work, taking the Boston Green Line, walking into the Hoffman office and seeing friendly faces made the transition feel much easier and more manageable.

One of the highlights of my time at The Hoffman Agency was the weekly Intern Cohort sessions. These sessions were a fantastic opportunity to explore different facets of the PR industry, from media relations and content development to social media strategies.

Among these sessions, the one on internalizing feedback with Lou Hoffman, the agency’s CEO, stood out the most. Lou shared a piece of advice that has stuck with me: “Receiving feedback is about making it easier for the other person to give feedback.” This straightforward advice shifted my perspective on feedback. Instead of seeing it as something to be nervous about, I began to view it as a valuable tool for personal and professional growth.

Another surprising and exciting aspect of my internship was diving into the world of technology, particularly semiconductors.

When I started, my knowledge of tech was quite limited. However, working with Hoffman’s tech clients provided me with a deep dive into this complex and fascinating industry.

I learned not only about the technical details of semiconductors but also how to craft compelling narratives that connect human experiences with technological innovation. From building a media list and researching targets to crafting a personalized pitch and communicating with clients, my time at Hoffman has truly broadened my views and sparked a genuine interest in the tech field.

As my time as an intern comes to an end and I transition to an incoming associate account executive, I feel a strong sense of gratitude for the people I’ve met and lessons I’ve gained. From understanding a true work-life balance to gaining insights into the tech industry and learning how to handle feedback effectively, this internship has been an incredible journey.

I’m excited to carry these new skills and perspectives forward into my PR career.

The high standard of fulfillment and growth I’ve experienced here has set a benchmark for what a positive work environment can be, and I look forward to seeing where these new insights will take me in the future.
