  1. The Super Bowl wasn’t all fun and games for everyone. To say that Cam Newton’s post-game press conference could have gone better is a huge understatement. PR Daily highlighted the top three press conference lessons that all PR pros can learn from. The Panthers’ quarterback gave abrupt responses to every question given and retreated back to the locker room after only a few questions. Even if you are not a sports PR pro, sticking to the “playbook” in a press conference is a must. Make sure that your client is prepared and ready to stick to the message.
  1. Looking to pitch your client’s latest digital gadget to an eager reporter? The Cision PR blog used its media database and social analytics to find the top 10 digital trend writers on Twitter. Check out their latest tweets and social rankings among their peers. Looking at reporters’ Twitter feeds is always a good idea before sending them an email to gauge their general interests.
  1. Communications professionals are likely to be more interested in the Super Bowl commercials than the actual game. See who the big winners were when it comes to advertisements in The Bull Dog Reporter’s ranking of the top Super Bowl ads. The article used MediaMiser’s media monitoring technology to analyze the public’s response to the ads on Twitter during game day. So, who was the MVP in commercial land on Sunday? Mountain Dew’s Puppy Monkey Baby. Mountain Dew certainly knew what it was doing when it picked such a bizarre star.
  1. If you are your client’s social media manager, some might think your job is a piece of cake. But a lot more work than the average person might expect goes into maintaining a brand’s social media image. The Meltwater PR Blog published an infographic that nails down what a day in the life of a social media manager really looks like. One of the most important roles is to measure and prove ROI. Digging in to how people respond to certain posts, how many people are actually clicking your links, how social media is driving conversions, etc., are crucial. These kinds of metrics really prove that social media can be a lot more than just catching up with high school friends.
  1. Even the most seasoned spokespeople can be tripped up by a probing question that they didn’t expect. Luckily, the Shift Communications Blog featured three interviewing blunders that your client should avoid. You should ALWAYS go over the information that can and cannot be shared with the media right before the interview to ensure that everyone is on the same page. Clarifying exactly what information is confidential and what is fair game is a must so your spokesperson knows exactly what to say.
